Gaya Nagendra - Nominee for My Little Light Award

Gaya Nagendra is a practicing Community Service Worker, in the Region of Peel. She has been in the field of Social Work for the past 11 years. She came from a background of working in the Business field. Her life took a turn in 2002 when she went to volunteer in her native Sri Lanka during the ceasefire period. 
During this time she volunteered in a variety of settings from working with school aged children to young mothers, this was a life changing experience for her. After returning to Canada she furthered her post secondary education in Community Service Work, Group facilitation, Addictions counselling, and adult education to work with a variety of clients. Besides her professional practice she engages with a variety of groups in Peel and the GTA, to work on issues that affect the greater community at large. She is fulfilled in what she does, and she never looked back. She continues to grow both in her professional and personal life by meeting people from all walks of life that inspire her to do what she does. She hopes to bring issues to the forefront and engage the community to talk about them. She hopes to inspire people to be more active members in the community and environment that surround them.
